FTMS

Introduction

Part of the Nijmegen Proteomics Facility is the FTMS facility. At this site, a nano-LC system is online coupled with an advanced, high-performance mass spectrometer: the LTQ Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass spectrometer. Its ultra-high mass resolution, mass accuracy and sensitivity make it a powerful solution for your complex proteomics problems.

Because of the one dimensional or two dimensional nanoscale chromatography, even highly complex samples can be analyzed. Protein samples will be treated with proteolytic enzymes to yield peptides. These peptides can be separated on the LC system and the eluting peptides will be directly measured in FTMS mass spectrometer. Accurate mass determination and MS/MS on the peptides will allow efficient database searches. Automatic or manual verification of the dataset results in a list of peptides or proteins that was present in the sample.
